The IDI is a Society registered under Societies Registration Act, 1860 and also under the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950. The main object of the Indian Diamond Institute is to create professionalism within the diamond gem and jewellery trade and industry and to that end organise the development of a higher level of skill in artisans. The Institute is expected to perpetuate and improve upon the skill involved in diamond processing. Development of new tools, equipment and technology in diamond processing and related subjects dynamically matching with the developments elsewhere in the world is another objective of the institute.

  The Indian Institute of Foreign Trade (IIFT) was set up in 1963 by the Government of India as an autonomous organisation to help professionalise the country's foreign trade management and increase exports by developing human resources; generating, analyzing and disseminating data, and conducting research. The primary provider of training and research-based consultancy in the areas of international business, both for the corporate sector, government and the students community.

  The Indian Institute of Packaging was incorporated as a society under the Societies Registration Act 1860, on 14th May 1966. The Institute has its head office and principal laboratories at Mumbai and regional testing and development laboratories at Calcutta, New Delhi and Chennai. With the excellent infrastructural facilities available, the Institute is geared to cater to the various needs of the package manufacturing and package user industries both with regard to the domestic distribution and export market requirements.

  Established in 1963, MMTC is today India's leading international trading company, with a turnover of over US$ 1 billion. It is the first international trading company of India to be given the coveted status "SUPER STAR TRADING HOUSE" and it is the first Public Sector Enterprise to be accorded the status of "GOLDEN SUPER STAR TRADING HOUSE" for long standing contribution to exports. MMTC is the largest non-oil importer in India and holds the position of largest bullion trader in the sub-continent.

  The State Trading Corporation of India Ltd. (STC), a Government of India Company, is one of the premier international trading organisations of the country. Set up in 1956, STC plays an important role in India's foreign trade - both exports and imports.

  APEDA- Stands for the Agricultural and processed Food Products Export Development Authority. APEDA is an autonomous organization attached to the Ministry of Commerce of the Government of India. The main function of APEDA is to build links between Indian producers and the global markets. APEDA undertakes the briefing of potential sources on government policy and producers. Along with providing referred services and suggesting suitable partners for joint ventures. Besides arranging buyer-seller meets.

  The Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) was constituted in 1972 under the Marine Products Export Development Authority Act 1972 (No.13 of 1972). The role envisaged for the MPEDA under the statute is comprehensive - covering fisheries of all kinds, increasing exports, specifying standards, processing, marketing, extension and training in various aspects of the industry.

  ESC is continuously striving to elevate India's position in the international trading arena of the Electronics, IT and Computer Software & Services. With a view to assist the exporting community in further enhancing their exports, ESC keeps re-orienting its service portfolio. The Council has been in the forefront to facilitate joint ventures, technical / financial collaborations and strategic alliances. ESC acts as a link between the Government and its members and provides a platform for interaction on policy issues.

  Functions of AEPC include showcasing Indian garments for global fashion requirements, facilitating interaction between foreign buyers and Indian exporters for promoting and regulating the growth of Ready-made Garments. Incorporated U/s 25 of the Companies Act, 1956 on 22nd February 1978, the Council is sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of Textiles.

  Basic Chemicals, Pharmaceuticals & Cosmetics Export Promotion Council, popularly known as CHEMEXCIL, was established in the year 1963 with headquarters at Mumbai and with the objective of making concerted efforts to promote exports of Drugs & Pharmaceuticals, Dyes and Dye Intermediates, Basic Inorganic & Organic Chemicals, Including Agrochemicals, Cosmetics & Toiletries, Agarbatties, Essential Oils, Medicinal plants/value-added Herbal products and Castor Oil.

  Carpet Export Promotion Council Of India (CEPC) was set up by the Government Of India in 1982 with a view to promote the exports of handknotted carpets and other floor coverings. The Council advises the Government on export promotion measures and helps the exporter community in bringing their problems and requirements to the notice of the government. It provides expertise in many spheres - both for the Indian exporters and foreign buyers. The council is a high profile body consisting of senior Government officials. It provides the necessary assistance to Indian exporters. It identifies the markets, provides financial assistance, sponsors participation in fairs and exhibitions and also conducts publicity abroad. For overseas buyers/importers the CEPC locates suppliers of repute and standing and provides credibility reports on Indian exporters. It also arranges buyer-seller meets and assists in resolution of trade disputes.

  The Cashew Export Promotion Council of India(CEPC) was established by the Government of India in the year 1955, with the active cooperation of the cashew industry with the object of promoting exports of cashew kernels and cashewnut shell liquid from India. By its very set up, the Council provides the necessary institutional frame-work for performing the different functions that serve to intensify and promote exports of cashew kernels and cashewnut shell liquid. The Council provides the necessary liaison for bringing together foreign importers with member exporters of cashew kernels. The inquiries received from the foreign importers are circulated amongst Council members. The Council also extends its good offices in settling complaints amicably in the matter of exports/imports either on account of quality and /or variation in fulfillment of contractual obligations.

  Chemicals & Allied Products Export Promotion Council (CAPEXIL) was set up on March 28, 1958 by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Government of India to facilitate the export of chemical based and allied products. It’s a role that still perfectly fits this mega organisation of about 4000 members. International development and Governments policies often dictate the course of exports. In its role of facilitator, CAPEXIL activates its umbrella network to monitor and analyse these trends. The Government is briefed accordingly, so that in the interest of exports, policy anomalies are either modified or changed.

  The Council for Leather Exports (CLE),Sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Govt. of India, has been serving the cause of promotion of exports of leather and leather products from India and has been acting as a bridge between the buyer and seller, since its inception in 1984.

  The Engineering Export Promotion Council (EEPC) was set up in 1955 under the sponsorship of Ministry of Commerce, Government of India, for Promotion of export of engineering goods, projects and services from India. It is for the first Export Promotion Organisation in India to receive ISO-9002 Certification from the world renowned organisation KPMG. The EEPC is a non-commercial and non-profit Organisation.

  Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts (EPCH) established under the Exim Policy of Govt. of India in 1986-87, is a non profit earning organisation. The organisation works under the administrative control of O/o Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of Textiles, Govt. of India and governed by Policies of Ministry of Textiles. It is an apex body of the Government for promotion of exports of Handicrafts from the country.

  Indian Silk Export Promotion Council is the nodal agency for promotion of silk exports from India.

  JMDC is the national body for promotion of Indian Jute and Jute Products at home and abroad.

  Overseas Construction Council of India (OCCI), sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce, has been acting as a focal point for channelisation of information and identification of Indian companies capable of executing projects in overseas markets. It provides a forum to public and private sector construction companies in India for entering into consortium arrangements for bidding/executing overseas contracts.

  Since its inception in 1954 as an autonomous, nonprofit export promotion body, TEXPROCIL has become the international face of Indian Cotton Textiles successfully facilitating exports. For the foreign buyer, it has opened the entire range of Indian cotton yarns, fabrics and made-ups and has become the one-stop source for it. While for the discerning Indian seller it has brought within reach the opportunities afforded by the global market.

  The Handloom Export Promotion Council was set up in the year 1965 to promote exports of all cotton handloom items, viz. Fabrics, Home Textiles , Lungies, Real Madras Handkerchiefs, etc. The Council has its head office at Chennai, with regional offices at Delhi and Mumbai.

  Set up by the Ministry of Textiles in 1995, Powerloom Development and Export Promotion Council (PDEXCIL) has undertaken several measures to develop the powerloom industry and to promote exports of powerloom textiles. It has been making constant endeavours to promote and expand the level of exports of powerloom textiles.

  Shellac EPC is registered under section 25 of the Companies Act of 1956. It functions within the parameters and provisions of Chapter 13 of Export Import Policy.

  The Sports Goods Export Promotion Council (SGEPC) is the primary agency devoted to the promotion of exports of Indian sports goods sponsored by the Government of India, Ministry of Commerce. It has under its banner all the leading manufacturers and exporters of sports goods for all disciplines.

  SRTEPC is a Government of India sponsored apex organisation which represents nearly 2800 manufacturers and exporters.

  The Gem & Jewellery Export Promotion Council, the apex body of the gem and jewellery trade with a current membership comprising about 7000 exporters spread all over India was founded in the year 1966, when exports of gems and jewellery were worth Rs. 22 crores.

  The Plastics Export Promotion Council (popularly known as PLEXCONCIL) sponsored by the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Department of Commerce, Government of India, represents the exporting community in the Indian Plastics industry. The export promotion strategies evolved since 1955, the year when PLEXCONCIL was born, have fetched rich dividends, which is exhibited in the form of high export growth rates.

  Wool & Woollens Export Promotion Council (WWEPC) takes great care in tracking international fashion trends and help its members to maintain and cultivate the highest standards of style and fashion.

  SRTEPC is a Government of India sponsored organisation backed by the Indian synthetic and rayon textile industry and having nearly 3000 member exporters. SRTEPC has been instrumental over the last five decades in helping many overseas buyers form an enduring and profitable business relationship with Indian exporters of synthetic and rayon textiles.

  Indian Pharmaceutical Industry has made phenomenal progress over the years and made its impact in the global market. Indian Pharmaceutical industry has been recognized as reliable source for drugs and drug intermediates, pharmaceutical formulations. Tremendous opportunities are available for Indian Pharma industry in post 2005 era to manufacture and export many products getting off-patented. Its immense strength in manufacturing quality medicines at affordable prices made the Indian Pharma industry to compete both in regulated and non-regulated markets. This industry is playing a vital role in the Indian economy with Rs.14500 crores export turnover in the year 2003-04 with a growth rate of 12%. Apart from its strengths in manufacturing and exporting allopathic medicines, India is known for its own systems of medicines with about 7000 units manufacturing various Indian system of medicines viz., Ayurveda, Unani, Siddha, Homeopathy etc. Though strong in cultivation/manufacture of Indian system of medicines, India’s share in the global herbal market, estimated at US$ 63 billion, is less than 0.2%, which shows that there is a tremendous scope for export market.

  With a view to creating an institutional mechanism for collection and dissemination of trade data and improving information services to the business community especially small and medium enterprises, the National Centre for Trade Information (NCTI) was set up in 1995 under the Ministry of Commerce & Industry pursuant to a Cabinet decision. NCTI a non profit joint venture of India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) and National Informatics Centre (NIC) is a Ministry of Commerce & Industry, Govt. of India recognised Trade Point-India under the Trade Efficiency Programme of United Nations Conference on Trade & Development (UNCTAD). The Trade Point Programme of the UNCTAD has certified NCTI as an Operational Trade Point in New Delhi. Besides using technology for trade for collection, collation and dissemination of trade information, NCTI is involved in establishing linkages in India and Abroad, facilitating training in the areas of trade, commerce and informatics besides continuously augmentating its information base and providing inputs to the Government in strategic trade promotion.

  As the name suggests, Project Exports Promotion Council of India (PEPC) is an export promotion council which was set up by the Government of India in 1984 (as Overseas Construction Council of India).

  India Trade Promotion Organisation (ITPO) is synonymous with the country's trade promotion around the world all round the year. Indeed at ITPO, the promotion of trade is an exacting mission, translating into a search for new frontiers and new horizons in the world of commercial interactions, both at macro and micro levels.
